The Teardrop Necklace
by Irene Zundel
Angelique was awash in a private ocean of grief, as she walked along the shore. Disconsolate and despairing, her thoughts as distant as the Milky Way, she sank her knees on the sand and began to cry uncontrollably.
Her anguished sobs wracked her body and the pain of losing her child numbed her soul. How could she ever go on? Or why would she even want to?
Her bitterness poured from her in an endless stream. She railed against God, questioned His love and even His existence.
As she looked up and began to wipe the tears cascading down her cheeks, she became aware of a radiant presence. Kneeling in front of her and catching every precious tear in his lovely cupped hands, was an angel of indescribable beauty, peace and compassion.
Amazingly, as each tear fell and touched his hands, they turned into dazzling, teardrop-shaped gemstones of red, green, blue, gold, yellow and white. Silently and lovingly the angel strung each gem into a glittering necklace and draped it around Angelique's neck.
Softly and gently, the angel spoke:
"Dear one, I know this necklace is no replacement for the child that you lost but God asked me to make it for you to bring you comfort and to remind you of His endless and eternal love.
The red stones symbolize the blood Christ that was shed to bring you salvation. Green is the color of eternal life. Blue represents Heaven and gold, the color of the streets you will walk on one day. Yellow is for the sun, which always shines there and white is for the pureness of God's love and His glorious Light
The shape of the stones are like your tears to remind you that there is sorrow in this life but God sees and lovingly collects every tear. In time, those teardrops will be traded for indescribable beauty and joy, as you and your little one are reunited in your eternal home.
With great tenderness, the angel looked into Angelique's eyes, helped her to her feet and rose upward standing on a pillow of clouds.
And for the first time, in a very long time, peace and hope flooded her soul...
